FAQs
Below are some frequently asked questions we receive about our picnic tables:
1. Do you ship your picnic tables?
Yes, we do offer shipping of our picnic tables nationwide. Due to the size and weight of our picnic tables, there are additional carrier charges for shipping and our larger tables ship via freight. Shipping can vary anywhere between $150 - $500+ per table depending on location and size of the table. Please contact us directly so we can prepare a custom shipping quote. Your picnic table ships unassembled with instructions included for quick and easy assembly. Please visit our shipping and assembly page to watch our unboxing video for more information.
2. What is the difference between the types of wood you use in your products?
Our picnic tables are made from either Douglas Fir or Cedar. Douglas Fir offers a cheaper option than Cedar for the same great look. The Douglas Fir picnic tables are extremely sturdy and durable. Douglas Fir will age quicker than Cedar and is more likely to warp or bow over time. Our Douglas Fir tables can be stained or painted.
Cedar is naturally rot resistant and a softer wood than Douglas Fir. Cedar is easier to scratch or dent than Douglas Fir. Due to the additional cost of using Cedar, our Cedar picnic tables are sold at a higher price, but both tables are of the same design. Our Cedar tables can be stained, but we do not recommend that they be painted.
Our picnic table accessories are made from a mix of Firs, Pine, and Spruce based on availability and intended use. Our accessories can be stained or painted, but we cannot guarantee an exact match to your picnic table or existing furniture due to the differences in grain and absorption of the stain/paint.
3. What is the life cycle of my picnic table?
Our picnic tables are designed to last for many years with outdoor use and minimal maintenance. We highly recommend the use of a sealant or exterior grade spar urethane to protect your picnic table from the elements. We would also recommend that your picnic table be covered when not in use to extend the lifespan. The lifespan of your picnic table will vary based on the exposure conditions. Exposure to pests, extreme use, and harsh climates, such as proximity to saltwater and extreme temperatures, will reduce the lifespan of your picnic table.
Overtime you will notice your picnic table start to age. As the wood begins to age and dry out, you may begin to see cracks or splits in your picnic table. This is completely normal and the timing will vary depending on environmental conditions and how you care for your table. A picnic table used outdoors and left untreated will age quicker than a picnic table used indoors and cared for. Any splinters can be lightly sanded and touched up if needed.
Your picnic table will also contain various knots in the wood that may loosen and work free from the wood overtime creating holes or indentations in the table. This is normal and we believe that this enhances the character of the table. If you do not like the look of knots that have worked free from the table, you can use a high quality wood filler to touch up.
Your picnic table or benches may start to warp slightly as the wood ages and dries. This may result in a slight wobble or one leg sitting higher than the others. This can be corrected with the use of nail on furniture gliders to compensate for any changes in height. These may also be needed if your picnic table and benches are used on uneven terrain.
No two picnic tables are the same so the life cycle of your picnic table will vary!
4. Do you offer delivery of your picnic tables?
Yes, we do offer delivery within the NY tristate area separate from carrier shipping for a more cost effective option. Delivery and assembly within Nassau County and parts of eastern Queens County is FREE. We do charge a delivery fee for anywhere outside of these areas, within the NY tristate area. Fee will vary based on the exact location.
5. Can I pickup my picnic table?
Yes and no. Due to insurance reasons, we cannot allow any customers in our workshop or on our property. We do not have a physical storefront with a pickup location. Since we do deliver for FREE within Nassau and parts of eastern Queens County, we can arrange to meet you within either county to facilitate pickup.
6. Are all of your tables and benches built with the "A Frame" design?
Yes. We have found that the "A Frame" design on our tables and benches provides the most stability. You may notice benches on our website with the crossed leg design. These were from our early collection of benches and we found this design to be less stable and less aesthetically pleasing than the "A Frame" design. We have since changed the design of our benches to match the design of our tables so all benches will have "A Frame" legs.
7. Will my picnic table rust?
No. Overtime your picnic table may change in color as it ages, but all of our hardware is designed to withstand the elements. Our bolts are galvanized and our screws are Rust-Oleum coated to provide a long lasting clean look.
8. Will there be screw holes and bolts visible in my picnic table?
You will be able to see some screws and bolts in your picnic table. We use 2.5 inch wood screws in various places and we do not fill the screw holes in case any of the boards ever need to be replaced due to damage. We do countersink the screws so they are below the surface of the wood, but you may be able to see some screws (shown below). We do our best to to maintain the visual integrity of the table and bench tops so we avoid putting screws on the top side, when possible.
9. How does your pricing compare to other picnic table manufacturers?
The production of our picnic tables starts with the hand selection of all pieces of lumber used in the production of the table. This helps to avoid major imperfections during the production process. Once the lumber is hand picked, it takes over 4 hours to cut, assemble, and finely sand each of our picnic tables. The process can take even longer depending on final finishes. Our prices are based on the amount of time it takes to produce each picnic table and also incorporates market prices for materials. Although we try to remain competitive in our pricing, we do not mass produce our picnic tables like the big box stores and are proud to provide our customers with high quality picnic tables.
10. How long will it take to get my picnic table?
Current production time is 1-2 weeks and may vary slightly depending on finishes requested. Production time may be longer during periods of peak demand and you will be updated accordingly.
11. How do I care for my picnic table?
We highly recommend an exterior grade sealant or spar urethane finish to protect your picnic table, especially when being used outdoors. The finish should be reapplied every couple of years (there is no exact science here). Picnic tables with no finish on them will last and function well for many years, but their life span will be shorter compared to those tables with an exterior grade spar urethane.
12. Why are there gaps between the boards of the table top and benches?
There will be between 1/8" and 1/4" gaps between each of the boards on your table top and benches. We do this for several reasons, as detailed below:
- Wood will expand and contract due to changes in the environmental temperatures. Spacing the boards allows the wood to expand and contract without buckling.
- It makes cleanup easier as crumbs can be swept through the gaps to the ground outside.
- It provides slightly more width to your table area and bench seating. When your table fills up with food and goodies, you'll be glad you have the extra square footage!
13. Do you accept returns or exchanges?
Yes, please see our return policy for full details. You are responsible for getting the picnic table back to us and shipping costs are nonrefundable.
